En esta intervención artistica, he reinterpretado la figura histórica de Pedro de Estopiñán, no desde el prisma rígido del conquistador, sino desde la ternura y la esperanza del niño que, en algún momento, soñó con hazañas imposibles.

Esta obra no es una exaltación bélica ni una apología de conquistas, sino una oda al poder transformador de la imaginación infantil.

“Los sueños de la infancia forjan los héroes del mañana.”

Esta frase, que protagoniza la pieza, articula el mensaje central del mural: los ideales, fantasías y aspiraciones que germinan en la niñez son las semillas de los actos heroicos, creativos y revolucionarios del futuro.

El rostro infantil de Estopiñán —con casco desmesurado, mirada decidida y gesto contemplativo— simboliza el puente entre la inocencia y la responsabilidad. Está dibujado con trazo suave y sepia, evocando los grabados clásicos y, a la vez, humanizándolo.

Las flores que emergen como ornamento no son decoración: representan la fertilidad de la mente joven, que florece incluso en muros quebrados y ciudades erosionadas por el tiempo.

La textura del muro, con sus cicatrices, grietas y restos de historia, no fue ocultada, sino integrada. Es parte del discurso: la historia no debe borrarse, debe resignificarse. Esta superficie decadente es, paradójicamente, el lienzo perfecto para hablar del porvenir.

Desde Melilla, ciudad fronteriza, híbrida y resistente, este mural se erige como una reflexión sobre la necesidad de reimaginar nuestras raíces para construir un futuro más justo y más humano.

Esta es una obra que mira hacia adelante sin negar el pasado, que enaltece la imaginación como arma legítima de transformación social, y que honra a la niñez como el verdadero campo de batalla donde se forjan los grandes gestos del mañana.

In this artistic intervention, I have reinterpreted the historical figure of Pedro de Estopiñán not through the rigid lens of the conqueror, but through the tenderness and hope of the child who, at some point, dreamed of impossible feats. This work is not a martial exaltation nor a glorification of conquest, but an ode to the transformative power of childhood imagination. “Childhood dreams forge the heroes of tomorrow.” This phrase, which takes center stage in the piece, articulates the mural’s core message: the ideals, fantasies, and aspirations that take root in childhood are the seeds of the heroic, creative, and revolutionary acts of the future. The childlike face of Estopiñán—with an oversized helmet, a determined gaze, and a contemplative expression—symbolizes the bridge between innocence and responsibility. It is drawn with a soft, sepia line, evoking classical engravings while humanizing him. The flowers that emerge as ornament are not mere decoration: they represent the fertility of the young mind, which blossoms even on cracked walls and in cities eroded by time. The wall’s texture, with its scars, fissures, and remnants of history, was not concealed but integrated. It is part of the discourse: history should not be erased, but reinterpreted. This decaying surface is, paradoxically, the perfect canvas on which to speak about what lies ahead. From Melilla—a border city, hybrid and resilient—this mural stands as a reflection on the need to reimagine our roots in order to build a fairer, more humane future. This is a work that looks forward without denying the past, that elevates imagination as a legitimate instrument of social transformation, and that honors childhood as the true battleground where the great acts of tomorrow are forged.
